“While the advantages of breast milk over formula are without question, there are also risks that go along with getting human milk online.

Sites like OnlyTheBreast.com set guidelines, but the site’s designer, Glenn Snow, says it’s ultimately up to the seller to follow the recommendations and the buyer to check the facts. “We think it’s a good idea to ask for medical history. We also suggest moms to go and get pre-qualified at a breast milk bank, which means they make you jump through all these hoops and we suggest those are the best moms to buy milk from for their babies,” says Snow, who designed the website for his wife Chelly, a breast-feeding mom.”

A Winnipeg mom was trying to sell her frozen breast milk online but was forced to remove the post.

Sara Wiens has three months’ worth of breast milk her four-month-old son can’t drink so rather than see it go to waste, she advertised it for sale on Kijiji.

But she didn’t get the response she expected.

“[There were] quite a lot of negative responses,” Wiens said, adding she was told to take the ad off the site because the sale of bodily fluids is not allowed.

There were about five people who expressed interest “but for various reasons they decided not to go that route,” she said.

Wiens had pumped the milk and stored it for her son before she learned he had an allergy to cow’s milk protein.

The milk was pumped while Wiens was consuming dairy products but she has since dropped that from her diet and her son is able to drink the milk she is now producing.

“When we found out my son had a cow’s milk protein allergy … I had decided that we should let someone else use the milk,” she said.

Wiens still wants to sell the milk but is lost about how to do it now.

There are breast milk banks in Canada but not in Winnipeg and it would cost too much to ship it to Vancouver, she said.

It’s unfortunate that so many moms are having their posts removed for listing their breast milk. Though I do understand from Kijiji point of view, they just don’t allow any bodily fluids, including breast milk. Despite many moms getting negative responses about buying breast milk and selling breast milk, there is still a growing demand. Wet nurses used to be very popular and are currently taboo in the mainstream, perhaps with the slow economy and ‘breast is best’ mentality, we may see wet nurses back in demand?

For this topic I am specifically talking about why a man would want to nurse directly from a breast (not simply drink the milk, which will be addressed in another article).

My wife and I were married for 6 wonderful years before we ever talked about me trying her milk. They were 6 peaceful, happy years – hardly any disagreements, open discussions about desires, including intimate ones – in short we had though we had already talked about everything we could. Then, after the birth of our 3rd child she asked if I had ever tried her milk. She had pumped with our previous 2 children and she wondered if I ever nipped a little out of a bottle to give it a taste. I hadn’t, but I was curious. So, being engorged and not wanting to put that mean pump to her breast again, she offered to let me nurse. And so I did.

The fact is that many, if not most… or all…, men are “breast men.” Many researchers will say this is a natural act of men looking for fertile women who will be able to bear and care for children. However, many men are equally happy with a smaller cupped woman, just as many are happy with a larger cupped woman. Size may not be a dominating factor, but in the end the breast is an attraction. Because of this, “breast play” is normally a part of intimate relations. Many incorporate massaging, kissing, suckling and other activities into their sexual experience. Most likely you are familiar with this and it is, for lack of a better term, “normal”.

The man who nurses from his wife is normal as well; he and she have merely discovered that there is another level that can be achieved. These are those who have been able to place sexual desires aside, to varying degrees, and enjoy the pureness of the nursing act alone.

The sensations that are experienced are many. The man may enjoy the taste of the milk, in that it is sweeter than commercially available milk and is, when consumed while nursing, naturally warm and soothing. What’s more than the taste are the emotional sensations. Many men will describe it as soothing, relaxing, meditative, etc. Hence my name, Stress Relief. Before nursing I would typically try to “not bring my work home with me”, which is very difficult to do. By bottling that stress inside all I did was come that much closer to overflowing once I was at home and trying to help my wife with all that is involved with a household and children. However, now I nurse about 3 times a day. Nursing right before I leave for work sets the tone for the day – it’s like putting the scoreboard to zero, a fresh slate with nothing hanging on my back to worry about. I return to my wife again as soon as I get home. This gives a quick release to anything that may have happened during the day. Finally, once more just before bed ensures both of us a long peaceful sleep. Those times not only work for me, but ensure that my wife is comfortable as well.

Similarly my wife has many feelings associated with nursing. Many women will mention the sexual sensations they may experience while nursing, though for most it is again the emotional experience that tops it all. Here is a woman who has a husband that needs her, who finds comfort by being with her, who can provide something further to him, outside of simple sexual relations, which will keep their marriage strong. Imagine if your husband or significant other came straight home after work and the first thing they did (after taking their shoes off and saying hello to the children, of course ) was to come to you for comfort. Not just a hug and kiss, but a half hour or more of cuddling, hair stroking, eye staring attention. How would that make you feel as woman?

My wife and I also put another aspect into our nursing. If I want to nurse, I ask – I don’t just get all googley eyed and start going for her breasts. I respect her body and let her know I need to relax with her. In turn she does the same thing – if she sees that I am stressing out but that I haven’t thought to ask, she will bring me to her. All of it is very loving, very caring – a show of concern for the person you have committed yourself to.

I hope this has answered the question of why a man would want to nurse and why a woman would let him do so. I look forward to discussing further topics with you. As always I am receptive to your thoughts, comments and/or questions you may have that I did not delve into. You can reach me at stress@forevernursing.com or my wife at nursemaid@forevernursing.com – or just come join us and other couples at our website, http://www.forevernursing.com.
